Among Us — should you really wear a hat?
In Among Us, hats are that little bit of customization we needed. From eggs to sprouts to a mini snow crewmate, there are an abudance of different hats to wear to show off your personality. But, as fun and cute as these hats are, should you really wear them in Among Us? Can they make the game harder? This article is going to cover whether or not you should really wear hats.
What do hats give you?
Before we get into why you should maybe pass on wearing a hat, we need to analyze the question — what does a hat bring you? The first thing that comes to mind is customization. That is true. Your hat can really help express yourself in Among Us. Like Henry Stickmin? Wear the Henry Stickmin hat! Like flowers? Wear the flower hat! Since there are so many hats, it’s rare for two people to have the same hat.
However, there is another form of customization in Among Us that is much better than wearing a hat — your color. Now, despite there only being 12 colors and countless hats, in a single lobby only you can have one color. Most people in Among Us don’t say people are sus or clear people based on their name or hat. They usually use their color.
Why shouldn’t you wear a hat?
This part was the actual point of the article. While hats only give you some customization for yourself in the hundreds of different lobbies in Among Us, they do take some things away.
For starters, some hats make you a clear identifier. This means that you’ll be memorable in the lobby, even for just a short time. Hats like the mini crewmate hat and the giant eye do this well. On one hand, if you prove yourself innocent there is a very small chance you will be ejected. But on the other hand, it’s way harder for an impostor to win as a clear identifier.
Another way that hats can hurt instead of help is making you more sus. Hats like the ninja hat and purple mask make you look really suspicious, and it’s more likely that you’ll be eliminated.
Conclusions
So, should you wear a hat? It depends. Sometimes you look weird without a hat compared to the rest of the crewmates, while sometimes you just want to blend in and avoid being a clear identifier.
But to be honest, it doesn’t matter whether you wear a hat or not. Sure, there are small differences in the way people will act towards you if you’re wearing a specific hat, but overall it doesn’t matter and your actions will be the real decider of whether you’re sus or not. Passing on a hat will not automatically make you win.
