How to win in Among Us as a crewmate
Among Us is a fun and addicting game where you have to work together to find out who the impostor is before they kill too many people. It’s become super popular lately.
Unsurprisingly, the best part of playing Among Us is actually being an impostor. However, it’s rare to be one and I have the worst luck, so sometimes I play for hours on end without even being the impostor once.
So in this article I’m going to give you some tips on how to be a better crewmate, so that you can be ready to spot out the impostor super fast.
(1) Medbay scan
Most people know that the Medbay scan is a visual task, and many people try to clear themselves by showing their scan to others. However, there are a few things to be mindful of when doing a Medbay scan.
The first is that if you’re watching someone doing a scan, and it looks like they’re faking, make sure that they’re just not doing the Specimin task instead right next to it. It seems like a dumb mistake to make, but I’ve been in countless games where I’ve been accused of faking a scan, only to be ejected and revealed as a crewmate.
Another thing is that you shouldn’t try to force crewmates to watch you do a scan, or any other visual task for that matter. If the discussion is going somewhere, where the impostor might be ratted out, don’t randomly tell the other crewmates to watch you do a Medbay scan. It’s annoying and unnessecary. The same goes for out of chat — if you’re following someone and trying to lead them toward Medbay, they’re going to get very sus of you and might even call an emergency meeting. But that’s a different story…
(2) Don’t call random emergency meetings!
Each crewmate has a certain amount of emergency meetings they can use, and that number is usually 1. So don’t call random emergency meetings! If you have a feeling that someone is an impostor, but don’t have actual proof, you’ll be doing your crew a big disfavor:
- You’ll be wasting one of your emergency meetings
- You’ll be wasting the crewmates time
- You will probably be ejected for accusing with no proof
- If you’re ejected and revealed as a crewmate, the other crewmates may think that it’s the person you accused, which it may not even be
So remember — don’t call an emergency meeting unless you need to!
(3) Swipe your card like a pro
Swiping a card in Admin is probably one of the most common Among Us memes out there — and it has a good reason. Swiping a card is very, very annoying to do. You can’t get it too fast, too slow, and sometimes it just has a bad reading! So here are some tips to swipe your card like a pro.
The first thing is that there are special methods for swiping your card. The most common one is swiping your card super fast left and right 4 times. Soon it will scan it as successful, and you will be good to go.
Another method of swiping your card, and also the one I use, is to slowly swipe your card until the middle, and then quickly swipe it to the end. While this one takes some practice, it’s ultimately easier to do and I’ve had a couple first-tries with this method.
Speaking of that, if you get a first-try, don’t leave immediately. It will not only look sus, but it’ll also get you separated from the group and more vulnerable to attack from an impostor. Most of the time a bunch of crewmates swipe their card at the beginning of the game, so stay with that group and stay safe.
(4) Use the “if not me then him” method
Impostor lives are worth more than crewmate lives. Think of impostor lives as diamond, and crewmate lives as coal. You would happily trade in your piece of coal for that valuable diamond. That’s what you do, when you use the, “if not me then red”, method.
If you’re a crewmate (which, if you’re reading this article, you probably are), and the other crewmates are blaming you even though you know who the impostor is, say that if it’s not you then [insert impostor color here]. When you get revealed as a crewmate, everyone will know who’s the real impostor.
But on the other hand, if someone else does that and are revealed as a crewmate, don’t just continue doing tasks! Stay at the café table until the end of the 15 seconds, and call that emergency meeting! This is also why it’s important to not call pointless meetings. The more time you give an impostor, the better chance of them winning.
(5) Do tasks in rounds
Usually, your tasks as a crewmate are spread around the map — however, if you know simple rounds and how to improvise, you can get them done pretty quick. These sample rounds are from The Skeld, but you can look up maps of Mira HQ and Polus to form rounds with them.
This tip covers the most commonly used round. Basically, you go into Admin or Electrical first and swipe card, fix wiring, and/or download data. Then you’ll have more tasks to follow up those. You can either go to the left, next to Reactor and Security, and then past Medbay back to café, or you can go to the right, next to Shields, Navigation, O2, and finally Weapons, back into cafeteria.
There are also other secondary rounds that you can access by using vents, but this article is for crewmate tips, so those will be specified in another article.
(6) Bonus: Look at task bar
To find out who the impostor is in a quick and easy way, you can look at the task bar when someone has finished a task. If the task bar doesn’t move, then you know they’re an impostor and you can report them in an emergency meeting. This works with:
- Card swipe
- Reactor
- Manifolds
- Calibrate Distributor
- Chart Course
- Stabilize Steering
In the Upper/Lower Engine and a crewmate does only one align engine task, that doesn’t mean that they’re an impostor. There is a trick that you can perform by quickly clicking the arrow after aligning one engine, and it completes both for you.
And that’s all! Thanks for reading this article, and I wish you luck in being a crewmate. Because you know you will. You never get impostor. (neither do I)
